Final Public Hearing for update: CBES & RBES


On June 17, 2013, the Vermont legislature adopted Act 89, which clarifies the applicability of Vermont's residential and commercial building energy codes to mixed-use buildings and includes various amendments to promote compliance with those codes, such as using existing State and local permit processes to encourage compliance.


Vermont law requires that the residential energy code (RBES) and the commercial energy code (CBES) be updated on appropriate schedules.  A public hearing for the proposed energy standards has been scheduled for September 19th in the Montpelier (Room 11 of the Statehouse), with discussion on the Commercial Building Energy Standards from 10:30 am to 12:00 noon and discussion on the Residential Building Energy Standards from 1:30 pm to 3:00 pm. The Public Service Department also will be accepting written comments on the revised versions of the standards through September 26th. 


Energy Code Update Timeline

* Proposed Energy Code Language available early June 2014
* Two stakeholder meetings held  mid-June 2014
* Comment Period for inclusion in draft ends July 9
* Draft filed with LCAR by the end of July

* Revised Draft available August 19, 2014 and filed with Secretary of State
* Public Hearing - September 19, 2014
* Public Comment Period ends - September 26, 2014
* Legislative Committee on Administrative Rules Hearing - October 2014
* Target Code Adoption Date - December 2014
* Target Code Effective Date - March 2015

Switchback Brewing

September CSI-VT Meeting & Tour Switchback Brewing


This month, the CSI Vermont meeting will be held at Switchback Brewing.  


The Board of Directors meeting will be held between 4:15 and 5:00.  Attendance at the meeting is not required but is encouraged.


Registration for the Tour of Switchback Brewing will begin at 5:00.  the Tour will begin at 5:15.  At approximately 6:15, the tour will adjourn and all tour attendees are invited to the Tap Room for (1) complimentary draft beer and hot dog each (Courtesy of CSI-VT).  This Building Tour has been approved by the American Institute of Architects for (1) HSW Learning Unit.

October CSI-VT Meeting & Tour

Save the date for a presentation and tour of the construction at the Waterbury State Office Complex on October 7. 


Rising back up from the devastating flooding of Hurricane Irene, this site incorporates a broad variety of project elements. Attend a brief presentation by State of Vermont Buildings and General Services, Architects Freeman French Freeman and Civil Engineers Engineering Ventures to understand the goals and strategies for reconfiguring the site to respect the floodway, renovating over 150,000 square feet of historic structure, adding 70,000 square feet of modern office space and construction of a new bio-mass boiler plant. Then continue with a 90 minute walking tour of the construction progress on this planned LEED Gold project.


Due to construction activities and sunset timing, this event will start promptly at 4:00 PM.
